S.E.C. Education Foundation News

As my final task as President of the S.E.C. Education Foundation, I would like to state that this year has been very rewarding personally and professionally. This certainly is due, in no small part, to the relationships with many members of the Society of Exchange Counselors and the S.E.C. Foundation.

At the annual meeting of January 2014, held in San Antonio, Texas, Gary Vandenberg from Grand Rapids, Michigan, will officially take office as president, although he is already leading at this time. You will be hearing from Gary, beginning with the next issue. There is a lot going on, so be sure to stay in touch.

Other officers include the following:

  • John Brennan, S.E.C. 1st Vice President/Treasurer—Dallas, Texas
  • Peter West, S.E.C. Education Chair Person—Adams, Maine
  • Rich Schindler, S.E.C. Farley Fund Chairperson—San Clemente, California

Steve England of Kearney, Nebraska; Lance Warner of Sandusky, Ohio; and Bill Richert of Tulsa, Oklahoma, were all elected to the Board for three-, two-, and one-year terms, respectively, to provide long-term continuity for meeting the goals of the Foundation. The goals include training and developing professionals in equity marketing and providing a forum for continual education in these fields. Ongoing efforts are on a national scale, as mentioned in previous reports. More simply put, the process of working with individuals to better meet their objectives, including in the real estate investment market. We have learned that the better educated we are, the better prepared we are to obtain the desired outcomes for ourselves and our clients in the marketplace.

We conduct our efforts nationally and are constantly looking carefully at potential new market areas to teach and create marketing opportunities. Our Foundation also assists with possible support for these in your area.

Upcoming programs include the following:

“Owner Financing—The Paper Course” by Dana Barnes, S.E.C., will be presented in San Antonio on January 19, 2014. Dana’s course will provide you with valuable information about buying, investing, or arranging owner financing.

“Media Training for Crisis Management” will be presented in Louisville, Kentucky, on March 16, 2014. Carolyn McClean and John Darr will ensure that participants get to—and stay on—message during any type of crisis.

“Developing the Developer as a Client” will be presented in Albuquerque, New Mexico, on September 14, 2014. Chris Dischinger, S.E.C., and William E. Stonaker, S.E.C., CCIM, have created a course that you cannot afford to miss. Chris and Bill will teach you how to work with, counsel, and partner with developers to create and close transactions you may never have considered.
