NYSCAR Marketing Session June 2009

Bob Giniecki, S.E.C., CCIM, and the NYSCAR staff and officers have done it again. The NYSCAR (New York State Commercial Association of Realtors) conference has become an exceptional event. It is a three day affair that has been held every year for the last eight years in New York at the Turning Stone resort about 30 miles east of Syracuse. Bob Giniecki has been in charge of organizing the marketing session segment of the meeting, and this year there were more than 110 in attendance.
The event was co-hosted by S.E.C., along with the CCIM and SIOR Chapters of New York. The conference combined one and a half days of marketing with one day of education. It has become the premier commercial-investment real estate conference in the northeastern US. This year there were over 160 conference participants from 14 states, as well as attendees from Canada.
The principal moderators for the marketing session were Jim Wilson, S.E.C., CCIM, and Bill Stonaker, S.E.C., CCIM. They were assisted by a number of S.E.C.’s, S.E.C. Candidates, and S.E.C. Guests who served as moderators. S.E.C. has been involved with the marketing and education aspect of this conference for the past five years.
The conference started with golf on Monday morning at the world class Shenandoah Golf Course, and the marketing session started immediately after lunch. On Monday evening the S.E.C.’s held their annual S.E.C. and S.E.C. frequent guests “invitation only networking/brainstorming dinner.” There were over 30 in attendance for the dinner. Ed Berlinski, S.E.C., CCIM, coordinated the networking segment of the dinner where attendees had the opportunity to present have/wants and or problem solving situations.
Tuesday was a full day of marketing with an “S.E.C. style” format, and then concluded with a networking cocktail reception in the evening. Wednesday was devoted to education with four half day sessions on timely topics and an all day (six hour) course taught by Jim Wilson, S.E.C., CCIM, on “Economic Principles to Generate Real Estate Transactions that Close.” The Wednesday “Keynote” luncheon included an update on the status of the S.E.C. and how we are using our marketing sessions and expertise to solve client issues. The S.E.C. update was given by 1st Vice-President Bill Richert, S.E.C., CCIM. Along with Bill on the dais was Daniel Hartnett, 2009 NYSCAR President; and the keyote speakers George Ratiu, Economist for NAR, speaking on the Commercial Real Estate Outlook, Michael Kelly with the New York legislative update and Bill Procida, President of WPI, speaking on “How to Reinvent Yourself” in the real estate business.
Conference Chairman, Joe Rowley, indicated this was one of the most successful conferences they have had. It is truly an event you should attend next year if you have the opportunity.
