S.E.C. & NYSCAR Commercial Real Estate Conference

This successful New York commercial real estate conference was co-hosted by S.E.C., and NYSCAR (New York State Commercial Association of Realtors), along with the CCIM and SIOR Chapters of New York, at the Turning Stone Resort in Verona, NY, on June 16-18. The conference which combined one and a half days of marketing with one day of education has become the most significant commercial and investment conference in the northeast, and had participants from 9 states and Canada. There were 120 registered for marketing and more than 170 attendees overall.

The principal moderators for the marketing session were Jim Wilson, S.E.C., CCIM, and Bill Stonaker, S.E.C., CCIM. They were assisted by other qualified S.E.C.s, S.E.C. Candidates, and S.E.C. Guests as moderators. S.E.C. has been involved with the marketing and education aspect of this conference for the past four years, and, according to Joe Rowley, Conference Chairman, of CBRE from Rochester, NY, this was the most successful conference to date. S.E.C. awarded a “Complimentary S.E.C. Meeting Certificate” to the attendee who had the best marketing package presentation at the marketing session; S.E.C. judges were appointed by Dan Rosow, S.E.C. Regional Director, and the recipient was John Lavelle, of RI Smith Realty of Pine Bash, NY, John is the president of the Lower Hudson Chapter of NYSCAR. Bob Giniecki, S.E.C., CCIM served as the marketing meeting manager. Ryan Zimmer of St. Louis was invited to be a marketing meeting runner. Ryan is entering college this fall and has an interest in the commercial real estate field as a career.

Golf was organized at the start of the event on Monday morning, and marketing began immediately following a marketing luncheon. At the conclusion of marketing on Monday, the S.E.C.s held their annual S.E.C. and S.E.C. frequent Guests “invitation only networking/brainstorming dinner” which was also attended by NYSCAR Board Members, with 35 attendees overall. Ed Berlinski, S.E.C., CCIM, coordinated the networking segment of the dinner where attendees had the opportunity to present have/wants and or problem situations looking for solutions.

Tuesday consisted of a full day of marketing with the format utilized at S.E.C. meetings, and concluded with a two hour networking cocktail reception in the evening. Wednesday was devoted to education; there were six half day exceptional and timely education courses. The highlight of Wednesday was the “Keynote Luncheon.” S.E.C. President Steve Eustis, S.E.C., CCIM, was seated on the dais and gave a talk about the S.E.C. commitment to education and effective marketing. Along with Steve on the dais was the First Vice President of the CCIM Institute, Charles McClure, CCIM, from Texas, and Maureen Wilson, CCIM, SIOR, and NYSCAR President. The “keynote speaker” at the luncheon was Herbert Krumsick, CCIM, SIOR, from Wichita, KS. He spoke about the changes that are impacting the economy and real estate, and provided insight as to the future success of the real estate industry. This conference has become more successful each year.
