Creativity = Curiosity + (Instinct x Intuition) + Change

I just refilled my Gatorade on the rocks, and decided to tune into my favorite watering hole on the net…. island music just seems right tonight and Margaritaville is just a state of mind anyway. Properly prepared, I then sat down to write this note.
You see, I promised Jackie Hellingson I would write something for publication in the S.E.C. Real Estate Observer.
Well, after trying all sorts of creative excuses to get out of this trap, she gave me the topic: “Creativity” So, here I am…trying to think of something profound to write that will convince you that you have untapped creative energy and all you need to do is…?
You know, that’s a good question. Just what is it we each need to do to unleash that creativity?
Pondering the answer while working on my second Gatorade, I remembered a great email exchange I had with Bob Steele awhile back. We bantered back and forth about whether or not creativity can be taught. As usual, the Master showed the pupil the way. I would share Bob’s insight about creativity but I can’t find the email so you’ll have to check with him yourself. He’s a very creative guy…
What I did conjure up is a formula for your consideration: C = C + (I x I) + C.
Creativity is the result of our Curiosity plus the sum of our Instinct multiplied by our Intuition plus our willingness to embrace Change.
Make sense? I’m not sure it does either. So, I figured there had to be a whole lot of really smart folks out there who might have something to say on the topic. I went looking and found a few. Enjoy.
Creativity
“Take the obvious, add a cupful of brains, a generous pinch of imagination, a bucketful of courage and daring, stir well and bring to a boil.” -Bernard Baruch
“Creativity is just connecting things. When you ask creative people how they did it, they will tell you they just saw something that seemed obvious to them and acted.” – Steve Jobs
“Whatever creativity is, it is in part a solution to a problem.” – Brian Aldiss
“To cease to think creatively is but little different from ceasing to live.” – Ben Franklin
Intuition & Instinct
“I call intuition cosmic fishing. You feel a nibble, and then you’ve got to hook the fish.” – Buckminster Fuller
“Trust your own instinct. Your mistakes might as well be your own, instead of someone else’s.” – Billy Wilder
“I believe in intuition and inspiration; at times I feel certain I am right while not knowing the reason. The intellect has little to do on the road to discovery. There comes a leap in consciousness and the solution comes to you and you don’t know how or why.” – Albert Einstein
Change
“If the people don’t want to come out of the park, nobody’s going to change them.” – Yogi Berra
“Life has got a habit of not standing hitched. You got to ride it like you find it. You got to change with it. If a day goes by that don’t change some of your old notions for new ones, that’s just about like trying to milk a dead cow.” – Woodie Guthrie
Curiosity
“Curiosity is the cure for all sorts of things. There is no cure for curiosity.” – Phil Corso
